A biomassa pr\u00e9-tratada \u00e9 colocada num digestor anaer\u00f3bio, tamb\u00e9m conhecido como reator de biog\u00e1s ou bioreactor. O digestor \u00e9 um sistema fechado que impede a entrada de oxig\u00e9nio.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: justify;\">A biomassa \u00e9 fermentada com a ajuda de microrganismos anaer\u00f3bios, nomeadamente produtores de metano. Estes microrganismos decomp\u00f5em os compostos org\u00e2nicos da biomassa e produzem metano (CH4) como principal componente do biog\u00e1s.<\/p><\/div><div class=\"x-text x-text-headline e162-e25 m4i-e m4i-f m4i-j m4i-l m4i-m\"><div class=\"x-text-content\"><div class=\"x-text-content-text\"><h3 class=\"x-text-content-text-primary\">O fermentador<\/h3>\n<\/div><\/div><\/div><div class=\"x-text x-content e162-e26 m4i-x m4i-y m4i-z m4i-10\"><p style=\"text-align: justify;\">Para criar condi\u00e7\u00f5es \u00f3ptimas para os microrganismos, o fermentador \u00e9 mantido a uma determinada temperatura (normalmente entre 35\u00b0C e 55\u00b0C, dependendo dos microrganismos).
